Ah New Orleans, the land of Mardi Gras, jazz, King Cakes, streetcars, cafe au lait and beignets, muffulettas, neutral grounds, heat, humidity, crawfish, Yats, hurricanes (both the storm and the highly intoxicating drink), the French Quarter, gumbo, and red beans 'n rice.
What a great place for the final of Top Chef Season 5. The final chef’s did not let us down with the dishes they prepared.

Give me a break people Carla is not that great at cooking, besieds, she was asked to offer a "Cocktail!" A spritzer isn't a spritzer with out wine, she just made a sophisticated kiddy drink.
From what I gathered from the episode my theory was proven correct, some higher up didn't want to go the final with out Jeff, so they staged the quick fire and had Emerill pick him. And I thought he was more true to the challange then she was. We've been robbed yet again by TC in having the one of the three best being substitued by mediocre cook who cooks more on priciple than rising to the challenge to WOW the judges.
I can't believe that the judges hate stephan's attitude that much that Fabio had to get eliminated. I agree, Stephan's attitude sucked, but I don't think he was victim of editing like Hung and Lisa were.
As someone who enjoys good food but doesn't drink alcoholic beverages, I would have voted for Carla simply for making something I can actually drink. But her two dishes definitely sound yummy.
Presentation wise, Jeff and then Carla's look good. Fabio's looks the worst.
Jeff will go far in his career. I think bringing him back says a lot. He did a great job/
I think Fabio's problem was execution. Stefan, by contrast, thought up a meal and beverage that just COULD NEVER WORK.
Forget time constraints and the necessity to make a party-volume of food.
Using the ingredients and amounts Stefan chose, Eric Ripert couldn't make that pile-of-crap taste good if you gave him 4 hours to make ONE dish.
This episode really highlights what Bravo displays in small letters at the end of the show: that the producers have input into who gets eliminated. I knew Jeff would not be selected as 1st on this episode simply because 1) It would have called for the elimination of the two Europeans and 2) It would have eliminated the Hosea v. Stefan drama that the show's producers have chosen to focus on (and with rightful cause, it does create a nice dramatic tension). I'm sure Carla's food was great, but Jeff never had a chance unless the other cooks all really screwed the pooch (like used salt instead of sugar). Unfortunately Jeff got eliminated on the cookoff which was bogus as the judges had nothing but praise for his dish yet somehow eliminated him over Fabio (who didn't receive the good comments). Of course, Fabio makes for better watching as well--another producer decision.
Carla's beignet looks and sounds like heaven.
I read on Tom's blog over at the Bravo site that Jeff's food was somehow "contaminated" by the sterno he was using in his chafing dishes. He says it was edited out, but we did briefly hear Stefan say "Do you smell something burning?". Tom said that the judges could barley eat his food because the sterno taste was so overpowering. I think maybe Jeff would have had a chance had this not happened!
I am soo f-ing pissed that Fabio got voted off. Stefan was such an A hole, he didnt even care about it. The was no reason for him to stay. If it was up to the judges he would be gonem but in the begining on the show it says the producers have the over all vote, and they wanted bitchy Stefan to stay so himand Josea could hav a bitch fight. I hate stefan, if the show went the way i wanted it to. Radikah would be the one to win
If you read Tom's blog on Bravotv.com you will see why Jeff didn't win. It wasn't anything to do with the producers or not wanting to eliminate two Europeans.
As for Stefans attitude, that is not part of what judges look at. It only has to do with cooking and in the opinion of the judges who ate the food (you didn't) he did a better job than Fabio. Get over it.
@ Rama. How in the world do you come to the conclusion that Carla is not that great at cooking??? The comment is just silly, if not down-right inane. It kills me that people's personal opinions and preferences cloud their ability to be objective. Look up cocktail in the dictionary. It's not limited to alcoholic drinks. Sheesh!
All statements made on BravoTV blogs are the Gospel Truth. No judging decisions are ever influenced by the producer's desire to build drama and ratings.
It's all about the food.
Clipper-gate was an optical illusion.
