Oh What A War - Episode 9 Results
Congratulations to the blue team
for the blindfold quick fire win. This was by far one of the hardest QF in TC history. Could you have done this? It took guts for them to let the $10,000 win ride into the elimination challenge.
Congratulations to Chef Michael V on the elimination win. You picked up the blue teams $10,000 and a cookbook. It was a true team player who then shares the $10,000 with the other members of his team. ( even though your bro said to keep it).
Ah Chef Laurine, there is always a casualty of war and many times it is the person at the front of the house. We wish you the best and hope you drop by our little kitchen. So what did you think?

I was shocked how much vested I am in this Top Chef season. The personalities are not as interesting as last season with Fabio, Carla, Stefan, and Jamie but the cooking seems incredible this season. I am a huge Jennifer fan, I was literally sick to my stomach that such an ass kicking, tough cook like her could go home so early. I was saddened to see Laurine go but it really is a season where four chefs really shine. The brothers V, Kevin, and Jennifer really are the cream of the crop. I hope these four make it to finals and hopefully my girl Jen can shine next week after a very disappointing Restaurant Wars.
I was pleasantly surprised that Tom took mine and other blogger's advice to drop some of the silly gimmicks from past restaurant war episodes.
As for Laurene, kind of surprised she made it this far.
I predicted that Laurine would be the next Cheftestant to pack her knives, BUT I was taken by surprise by how Jen C. & Kevin performed this week. The two of them really tanked during restaurant wars, Jen & Kev were VERY lucky that Laurine's front of house was just as bad as their cooking.
I thought Michael confirmed what a complete tool he is. His brother was so disgusted with him he told him to keep the money. I hope when he watches his show he sees what a complete toss pot he is but I doubt it. Felt sorry for Jennifer as she took her fail hard.
Can't wait till next week with Natalie Portman who I believe is a Vegan.
it is either that she is a vegan or that the food needs to be kosher.
I know her family is Jewish and that would throw a serious wrench into things. The Robin saying she is far more familiar than anyone else may indicate the kosher route.
also, the vegan thing has been done before.
The most intriguing aspect of the show on a deep level right now is Mike I. What is he? For more of the comp he has been considered just ok and that remains the case. However, perhaps because the like him, the brothers and Jen think he is part of their inner circle of elite chefs. Although Jen picking Kevin as her choice is very well deserved as he is a brilliant chef.
Jen should have taken Brian. They work well together as very intense people without the rashness of Michael V.
Michael V. is probably the best chef in the comp (or perhaps Kevin) as both do hiccup but have the most uniqueness. They say classical training is a backbone and Mike V. may use his elite training to take a nab over Kevin and either Jen or Brian in the finals. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring back a competition among Mike I and the loser of Jen and Brian to have a duel to see who can join the other 3 in a battle for champion.

It was not restaurant wars. To me of all the seasons this was by far the weakest RW. It just seemed like any other challenge. They had to make a menu and cook it. That was it. The only vaguely RW-sy thing was the front of the house contestants. But that alone an episode of restaurant wars does not make. What I loved about the concept was the starter up feel of the whole thing. You get an empty space and in a day or two you make it into a reasonable restaurant experience. This had none of that. It was bland run of the mill affair. I love this season. The cooking is great and the contestants are strong, but this rendition of restaurant wars was way, way too disappointing.
It wasn't just because they had to make up a menu and cook it. They had to serve it in a timely mannner and present it professionally.
This involved some judgement, as Jennifer found out that in the contest she shouldn't have decided to cook mussels and scallops to order and should have planned on something with less last minute prep.
Natalie Portman made a line of vegan shoes. The lady's vegan, and the chefs are probably screwed.
Vegan OH NO! Anyway, I could feel the anxiety of Mission on a bad night of service. I agree with Tom when notice each chef's two dishes were on the same course. I'm sure the cut aways of Jen preping fish to order was bogus, because it makes great viewing. What pulled my goat was how shocked Tom and Rick were when they found out Jen as cooking clams and mussels to order. Anyway, not a top episode for me, but I'm excited to see how Robin finally slips up.
Being TOP CHEF not only constitutes being a talented cook, but also a leader that is respected. Michael V. is NOT. I find him so abrasive, arrogant and rude. I'm not a fan of Robin, but I think he totally instigated her frustration. Would any of us want to work for him? I wouldn't.
I love this show. The talent, this season, is unbelievable. My heart went out to Jen. She was totally overwhelmed. I want her in the final 3. But my money's on Kevin.
Dear God this show is like crack to me!
Yes Michael is abrasive, but much of that this last show came out because he simply did not trust Robin and given her performance (she is only still on because other people sucked more than she did), he had good reason, albeit he should not have finished her plate.
So far i'm batting 1000 on who's out, last season came close, but as to who wins...man there's not a crystal ball anywhere that could nail it...
A quick question to other Top Cheffer's...
I tried to find out how the chefs are brought on to the show. I remember Eli on Iron Chef, and obviously most went to CIA, but how do they choose the possible contestants? Does anyone know?
Loved this episode! The quickfire was really cool.
