Top Chef Season 6 -Meet The Chefs

Oh what fun we are going to have with season 6 and the next set of 17 chefs. Between now and the new season starting, we would like to highlight each of these new chefs.

Let's begin with...

Chef Ron Duprat

From his BRAVO bio:
AGE: 40
HOMETOWN: Mare Rouge, Haiti—currently resides in Hollywood, Fla. and Naples, Fla.
PROFESSION: Executive Chef - Hollywood Beach Marriott
CULINARY EDUCATION: College Aimee Cesaire and La Varenne Ecole de Cuisine
FAVORITE SIMPLE SUMMER RECIPE: Jumbo Scallop, Sweet Chili Tahini Sauce, Watermelon and Avocado Slaw.

Ron is a well-seasoned executive Chef, having cooked for varying establishments such as the Pelican Bay Foundation and the Montauk Yacht Club. He has cemented himself as an expert in exotic flavors—often incorporating his own Haitian Creole influences with French-Asian Fusion cuisine. Ron always likes to keep vanilla bean, saffron, truffles, Spanish olive oil and chocolate on hand, and his favorite thing to make is his signature flourless chocolate cake.

Wish to learn more about Chef Ron... check out his video Get to Know Ron.

Welcome to Top Chef Ron. We wish you well!

We began the week asking you...

OK, many of you wanted Chef Smith to go or thought he would but it was Chef Suzanne.

But enough about the chefs themselves, onto the food. This week each chef had to reinvent the signature dish of a fellow chef. Of the 6 dishes, which reinvented dish would you like to try?

Which reinvented dish would you like to try?
Michael Reinventing Rick's Dish
Art Reinventing Suzanne's Dish

Congratulations to Chef Lo for the win and for another $10K for her charity SHARE

One had to go but we congradulate Chef Tracht for making it to the final 6 and for her charity JFS/SOVA Community Food and Resource Program.

A rant

I've warned you all before but let me warn you again.

I am no writer. If you expect perfectly formed sentences and paragraphs all neat and tidy, you are so in the wrong place.

You've been warned!

Ya know what, I really am enjoying Top Chef Masters. I like the challenges. I like the camaraderie. I like the mistakes made by professional chefs. I even like the judging, sorta.

I don't like Gael Greene.

I totally stole this picture from:
Photo: Photo-illustration: Everett Bogue; Photos: Getty Images, Patrick McMullan

Why? I'm not sure. I cant really put my finger on the reason but that lady annoys me to no end. I really tried to like her but nope, couldn't do it.

One of my pet peeves is star-fuckers. I can't stand them. Tonight's poll asking about who slept with Elvis just pissed me off. Gael Greene blew Elvis Presley then wrote a book about it and now its a trivia question on Bravo? Big. Fucking. Deal.

You know what would impress me more? If a woman of a certain age hadn't slept with Elvis Presley. If it had a pulse, he fucked it. Whats there to brag about? I can live with the 5lbs of make up spackled to her face but please, stop talking about who spent time in your mummified vagina!

Something else that gets to me is her hats. Yeah, yeah, its her signature. Whatever. They annoy me.

Remember that story about the young couple who were married and on their wedding night, the bride told the groom to not untie the ribbon around her neck? She repeated it night after night and guess what her douchebag husband did anyways? Yup, he untied the ribbon. Her head goes rolling off her body and there goes the honeymoon. I think Gael's hats are like that ribbon. If you remove her hat, her head will roll off or she will turn out to be the Crypt Keeper at the very least.

Gael wears hats. The Crypt Keeper is wearing a hat. Coincidence? I think not!

Gael seems highly respected in her field and that's something else that bothers me, food critics. My annoyance with critics spills over to movie critics too. Don't even get me started on that Leah Rozen bitch. "The Blair Witch Project is the scariest movie ever made" or some such shit came from her mouth. Did she even watch the movie?

Anyhoo, pardon my rant. I had to get it off my chest.

If any of this seems a bit mean, I don't care. Gael might be the nicest person on the planet but she annoys me. My blog, my opinion.

Padma Laskmi leaving Top Chef

Obviously never having seen any of her film or TV work herself, Padma Laskmi to star in NBC sitcom.

"
No-doubt to the chagrin of "Top Chef" viewers around the world, Variety.com is reporting Padma Lakshmi is ready to hang up her reality-show spurs and move along to the greener pastures of network prime-time situation comedy. And while fans of the Bravo cooking competition will have to make due with a new hostess following the conclusion of its sixth season, NBC is hoping it can inspire some of those fans to mix in Lakshmi's acting chops to their television diet.

Tentatively titled "Single Serving," the show will reportedly feature Lakshmi playing a woman who works "in the culinary world," and, if the title is any indication, probably dates a lot (with ensuing hijinx). According to Variety, 38 year-old Lakshmi is currently "kicking around" ideas for the show with writers and producers.

The Indian born actress/cookbook author's previous screen credits include playing the character "Sylk" alongside Mariah Carey in 2001's "Glitter," as well as a supporting role in the 2005 Bollywood sleeper, "The Mistress of Spices." The news of Lakshmi's development deal with NBC comes fresh off the heels of her recent Emmy nomination (along with co-host, Tom Colicchio) in the category of "Best Reality Competition Host."

Bun in the oven

From People.com,

Tom Colicchio was obviously thrilled to hear that his hit TV show
Top Chef garnered two Emmy nominations Thursday morning – "It feels great!" – but the award-winning chef admits he's a bit preoccupied these days: his wife is expecting a baby! "We're having a boy," he told PEOPLE, adding that the baby is due in early August. "That's [my] real news!" Colicchio, who has a 16-year-old son from a previous relationship, says that he and his writer/director wife, Lori Silverbush, are so prepared that they even have a name picked out, though he won't reveal what it is. "We're keeping it under wraps," he demurs. "Our parents don't know the name yet." That's not to say they haven't asked. Colicchio also tells PEOPLE that his mother was (unsurprisingly!) thrilled to learn of the new addition. "This is her seventh [grandchild]!" he says. "In fact, that's how we broke it to her. We gave her a little onesie with the number seven on the back of it. She opened it up and she's like, 'What?!' " So will his new son be expected to follow in the footsteps of his Beard-award-winning dad? "He could do whatever!" Colicchio says, adding that both his sons, "can do whatever they'd like to do as long as they're happy."
